Youth Health Centre

For the times when things aren't going so great in your life, you can get help from people who care about and are sensitive to your needs and are experts in their field. If you are having difficulty dealing with your emotions, are feeling depressed or anxious, or need someone to talk to about drinking or taking other kinds of drugs, or anything else going on in your life, there are a range of people, including youth workers, legal advisers, counsellors and psychologists who can help.  At headspace you will also be able to see a doctor for any kind of health issue.  All these people will be working together to support you.

headspace Illawarra Youth Health Centre is a place for young people, and a place where you come first.

headspace Illawarra has three strategies:

1. Establishment of the headspace Illawarra Youth Health Centre

The headspace Illawarra Youth Health Centre, located at Level 1, 85 Smith Street Wollongong, opened on 6 February 2008 and is staffed by GPs, youth workers, clinical psychologists, a mental health nurse, alcohol and other drugs (AOD) worker and administrative staff all with experience and skills in working with young people aged 12-25.  They work as a team, planning and coordinating care together with the young person and their carers, to address their physical and psychosocial needs.

2. Community Awareness, Education and Training

A critical responsibility of headspace Illawarra is to raise community awareness regarding issues facing young people and their families, and to provide education and training for anyone with an interest in supporting young people.
