Membership


(a)  There are four categories of qualification for membership:  
 

(i)   Ordinary Member;
(ii)   Practice Member;
(iii)  Associate Member;
(iv)  Life Member

   
(b) Demonstrated commitment to evidence based practice is a prerequisite for membership.
   
(c) Ordinary Members are those Members who are:
   
  (i)     legally qualified general practitioners or general practitioner registrars  who are working in private practice and who practise or have practised within the boundaries of Illawarra or Shoalhaven, and
  (ii)    legally qualified Health Professionals working in private practice who collaborate with general practitioners in the delivery of primary care within the boundaries of Illawarra and Shoalhaven.
   
  Ordinary Members must currently reside within the boundaries of Illawarra and Shoalhaven.
   
(d) Practice Members are those which are: 
  (i)    practices of general practitioners which provide primary continuing comprehensive whole-patient medical care to individuals, families and their communities within the boundaries of Illawarra and Shoalhaven; and
  (ii)   private practices of Health Professionals which collaborate with general practitioners in the delivery of primary care within the boundaries of Illawarra and Shoalhaven.
   
(e)  Associate Members are those Members who are:
  (i)   legally qualified practising medical consultant specialists who are particularly associated with the work of the Company; whose admission to membership would, in the opinion of the Board, further the interests of the Company; and
  (ii)  students currently enrolled in the University of Wollongong as medical students, or as post graduate students studying to become a Health Professional as defined in the Constitution.
   
(f) Life Members are those members recognised for their exceptional contributions as individuals to the company and to the community, who have consistently contributed over an extended period of time, and who have demonstrated a significant and sustained commitment toward primary health care in the region.
   
(g) Ordinary Members have full rights as Members including the right to vote.
   
(h) Practice Members and Lifetime Members have the same rights as Ordinary Members.
   
(i) Associate Members are not eligible to vote, may attend general meetings only by invitation of the Board. The services to be made available to Associate Members will be determined by the Board.
