We are very pleased to announce that the joint bid by the Illawarra and Shoalhaven Divisions of General Practice to become the 'Illawarra Shoalhaven Medicare Local' effective 1 January 2012. This announcement followed a successful and timely AGM on the 3 November, where members voted unanimously to rename the IDGP to Grand Pacific Health. This name was inspired by Grand Pacific Drive, the route that brings together the two regions and unites the Shoalhaven Division of General Practice (SDGP) and the Illawarra Division of General Practice (IDGP).

The Illawarra Shoalhaven Medicare Local website is currently under development and will combine resources from both Divisions as well as additional material to support connecting health to meet local health needs.

A Medicare Local for our region will continue the first-rate work of our two Divisions in supporting general practice. However, more will be required including extending services to the broader primary care sector, involvement in population health and assessment planning of after hours services and improvements in coordination and communication between services.

Our vision is to see our region become the forerunner of primary care service delivery by leading and supporting the primary health care sector to achieve measurable improvements in the health and wellbeing of our community.
